Prep & Post Treatment

  • How to prepare for your Waxing treatment:

    • A day or two before you wax, gently exfoliate with a mild scrub, brush, mitt, or loofah to remove dead skin cells that surround the hair follicles. Exfoliating helps loosen existing ingrown hairs and improves your waxing results.

    • Drink lots of water + avoid alcohol and caffeine on the days leading up to your appointment. Well hydrated hair is less likely to break.

    • Grow hair to roughly the size of a grain of rice. Stop shaving 5-7 days before your appointment.

    • Avoid extreme sun exposure.

    • Avoid using retinol, or other harsh skincare products, on the treatment area.

    • Avoid any injectables, such as Botox or fillers, two weeks before a wax.

    • Discontinue prescription acne medications (consult your physician).

  • Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over the next 24 - 48 hours.

Keep area clean + avoid heat and friction during the next 24-48 hours to minimize adverse reactions, meaning:

    • Avoid hot baths and showers (cool to lukewarm water only).

    • Avoid saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.

    • Avoid sun exposure (including artificial tanning beds).

    • Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.

    • Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools or jacuzzis.

    • Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions, or other products to the area.

    • Moisturize the skin daily.

    • After 24 hours, exfoliate the area to avoid ingrown hairs.

    • ISOTRETINOIN

    • RETIN-A

    • RENOVA

    • ALUSTRA

    • AVITA

    • TAZAROTENE

    • TRETINOIN

    • AVAGE

    Potential Skin Sensitivity Factors:

    • Sunburned skin

    • Use of retinol

    • Certain medical conditions

    • Pregnancy

    • Antibiotics

    • Other undisclosed medications

    • Menstruation

  • Waxing may cause pain that usually lasts for only a quick second as your aesthetician peels the waxing strip from your face. In most cases, waxing may be painful only for those who have extremely sensitive skin, or who suffer from autoimmune diseases like lupus.

Other sensitivity factors include: sunburned skin, use of retinol, pregnancy, antibiotics, menstruation.

  • Waxing is when an aesthetician applies a warm resin base to the treatment area, covers it with a strip, and pulls the strip to remove hair by its roots. Sugaring works much like waxing, but uses a natural paste made with sugar, water, and lemon. Though both procedures are similar, waxing is often more effective at removing shorter hairs.

  • Some people say your facial hair will grow in thicker after waxing, but this old wives’ tale is false. Waxing will often damage hair follicles in the treated hair to result in thinner hair and less regrowth. With repeated waxing treatments, your unwanted hair will likely become noticeably thinner and more sparse. Looking for a more permanent solution? Check out our IPL Laser Hair Removal options here!

  • Waxing can cause redness in sensitive areas that lasts anywhere between a few minutes and 12 hours. If you’re waxing to prepare for a special party or event, schedule your appointment at least 24 hours beforehand to ensure any redness is gone in time.

  • Redness caused by waxing will usually go away on its own, but aloe gel and coconut oil can naturally help reduce redness and irritation. If you lack these ingredients at home, apply a cool compress to your face using equal parts milk, water, and ice to combat redness.

  • Oral medications like antibiotics and acne treatments can make your skin hypersensitive and more prone to redness, tearing, and peeling, as can most topical acne solutions. If you’re using any medications or topical skin care treatments, review the list of side effects to see whether they will increase your skin’s sensitivity. See our contraindications list above.

  • Redness and irritation following waxing is normal, but keep an eye out for pimples, pus-filled bumps, swelling, and pain. Pimples and bumps can occur due to inflammation of hair follicles, while swelling and pain can indicate an allergic reaction to the waxing formula. See your dermatologist immediately if you experience any complications after waxing your face. Please let us know if you experience any adverse effects after seeing us for a wax!
